Very informative article by Rebecca Belchamber
Communicative language teaching (CLT), or the communicative approach, is an approach to language teaching that emphasizes interaction as both the means and the ultimate goal of study.
We know that lessons should be communicative oriented, but are they
actually? Some of them are, some are not. That’s why the teacher has to adopt
each activity in order to make it more communicative. There is the demand-high
approach, that can be used as well. The point is to change activities for
getting better outcomes. Moreover, there is 3XP approach, which is applied in
the work with the same exercise three times to surf in it deeper and
practice it more and more.
Rebecca Belchamber describes main
elements of CLT:
·
Communication – According to Ability
·
Accuracy as Well as Fluency
·
Promoting Learning
·
Motivation
Real situations
and communicative activities make our students “switch their minds on”, think
critically and even explore. It is a crucial moment in students learning to
feel autonomous and more self-confident.
The world has
changed, the society has changed, and everything has changed. Nowadays we live
in a networked society and a teacher isn`t the only one source of knowledge.
That`s why the main role for the teacher is a mediator. Without a teacher, the
whole information may become unnecessary and incomprehensible.
